Kabul University, the Tabesh Institute of Higher Education, the Information and Communication

Technology Institute in Kabul and Nangarhar University are among the successful institutes

selected for the ‘Capacity building for higher education program’ that is part of Erasmus+ -

the European Union program for education, training youth and sport.

The Afghan institutes will take part in three-year programs, within consortia of universities in

Europe and Asia, to support their human and technical capacity, curriculum development and

deepening international relations capacity. As part of the foreseen activities, an MA program

in migration studies will be established in Afghanistan.

“We appreciate the efforts and assistance of the European Commission in Kabul which has

helped Afghan universities to take part in such especial and extraordinary program. This will help

us to internationalize the Afghan higher education.” says Prof. Osman Babury Deputy Minister at

the Higher Education Ministry.

“Erasmus, the successful program that for 25 years has enabled over three million European

students to spend part of their studies in another country in Europe, is now an opportunity for

Afghanistan too. We are delighted that the number of applications from Afghan institutes has

considerably increased and that more Afghan universities and students will take part in the

Program in the coming years” says Mario Giuseppe Varrenti, Head of section at the EU

Delegation to Afghanistan.

The results of the international credit mobility program, the other key component of Erasmus

+, which allows student and staff exchanges, will be available soon.
